Hunt is on for new aspiring entrepreneurs

Longford Leader,  February 2010
The Midlands Innovation and Research Centre at Athlone Institute of Technology and Enterprise Ireland are now recruiting for the next Midlands and West Enterprise Programme (MWEP) commencing in April.
A a one-year programme, the MWEP focuses on giving entrepreneurs with the business skills, networks, facilities and supports timely advice and unique insights into the wider business start-up process. Eligible participants may also apply to Enterprise Ireland for salary support.

As such the MIRC and Enterprise Ireland are now inviting applications for MWEP 2010. Participants should have an innovative business idea with growth and export potential.

Ten high potential entrepreneurs from the Midlands are participating under the current MWEP banner.

Besides the huge wealth of expertise on show, products currently being developed include digital imaging software, therapeutic peat products, innovative packaging solutions and a freight forwarding portal.

A former MWEP start-up herself and an up and coming entrepreneur who featured in last week’s Business Leader, Ann Marie Durkin reflected on how the scheme impacted on her own business model-Shasta.

“The MWEP greatly assisted Shasta by providing structured training and support in the key commercial elements of setting up and running a successful business, while Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) has provided the research capability to develop our products from concept to successful commercialisation.”

Meanwhile, Barry Egan, Enterprise Ireland Regional Director said the project can go a long way towards enhancing even the most aspirational looking business ideas.

“If you are a prospective entrepreneur with industry experience and an innovative business idea, the MWEP will provide you with the business skills and support necessary to transform your idea into a successful business.”
